German Umlaute in Translation files

Dear forum members,
I’m currently playing with the translations in German and I’m wondering about how to use German special characters like ‹ Ü ›, ‹ Ä ›…
I tried to use HTML Entities in the translation file, e.g.

Übersicht
but this does not work in the user interface because the ampersand is again replaced as html entity, so the result is

Übersicht

:frowning:

If someone has solved it in similar situation please give a short hint

Thanks !

Jan

You don’t have to use any html entities in translation files.
Just put special characters as is en encode file as utf8.
the main.lang file must then have a ligne PageCode=UTF8

Thanks for the response eldy, but somehow it does not work.
the files are encoded in UTF-8.
I added the line

PageCode=utf8
to main.lang

there is another line

CHARSET=ISO-8859-1
which I switched to UTF-8 as well (I tried also ISO-8859-1)

But no success.
I checked the spanish files and there is also no line

PageCode=utf8
which should be there since they also have special characters…

:frowning:

thanks and best regards,

Jan

Hi!

You have to type it as UTF-8 and not utf8.
(2nd but a bit outdated choice for signs like €, Ä, Ö… : ISO-8859-15, but then you have to use Ä etc.)

Kind regards,

Hallo nochmal!

Thx a lot for the link!
I’ll start translating it today.

Have a great day!

Take a look in CVS. de_DE language has been added.
But it was an automatic generation. You can review language files to edit wrong strings.

sorry for the late reply.
thank you for the cvs info!
i’m checking the auto translation and will post it here.

have a great day!

hm, i think i’ve got a problem with cvs.

could it be that the link isn’t ok?
i always get « no such repository »
i used: [email protected]:sources/dolibarr as adress.

i’m here on debian linux using the gcvs client.

i’m a bit new to cvs but allready managed to use it.

I am happy for every answer, thanks!

Take a look at CVS version, german de_DE have been added with an automated process and files are encoded in utf-8.
You can review this files, it might be easier than building new files from scratch.

ahh, very nice! i didn’t get the point because i overlooked the CVS download here on the site.

Thanks!

Great to see this thread is running
Didn’t manage to monitor it due to some time issues…
Well, I will also check out the CVS version, I already managed to translate some amount of lines but some of them are not that perfect without the context of their meaning.

Hi there!

A few days allready passed and i dropped by to say that i am still working on the translation. i thought could complete it faster, but as always thousands of things occur at the same time. so i wanted to let you know that i am still on it.

Hi!

Is there any progress on the german translation? We evaluate dolibarr atm and are very happy so far. Just the translation is not acceptable. We’d like to help out with it, but only if the effort will not be wasted. For us the most important module is billing, so i’d offer to translate that module first.
